Why have I created this?
What I refuse to do on this site is promote a bunch of false promises that will never come to anything—you can get that anywhere.
Everything I promote, I have done myself and I have no sponsors to influence my discernment.
I’ve worked with people from age 8 to 88–and some in their nineties—so I know what works and what is realistic.
Teenagers and twenty-somethings can get positive results from almost any program, no matter how god-awful.
As a young man, I did a number of questionable, if not risky, programs myself.
Young people are typically obsessed with strength and hyper trophy, and completely oblivious to ling-term effect and safety.
All the guys I trained with in my college wrestling days—save one— are obese and/ or crippled from injuries.
Sometimes I get down on myself because I’m a step slower when I get down on the mat and wrestle with these (young) guys… But then, I realize that virtually no one my age can even get on the mat at all.
And sometimes I get down on myself because I don’t have the same physique I had twenty years ago…
Right up until I get up, and go down to downtown Port Townsend—where the median age is about 60 years—and I look around and feel like an Übermensch.
That said, it’s best to not compare yourself to other people, and certainly, never to criticize others, but it’s helpful to put things I to perspective and maintain a sense of humor.
Everyone gets old and passes on, but…if you desire to age well, and maintain a spring in your step to the end, then Steve Maxwell is a worthy go-to guy, and Maxwell Central is your station, and that is what I have to say about that.
I’m excited about this; I really enjoy the connectivity to my friends and students. I have a half-century of experience in my videos that you have access to.
In addition, each month, I’ll post a video Q&A made up of your submitted questions, plus drills, exercise demos, training tips, perhaps a recipe, and my ever-evolving observations on the state of training.
I hardly know everything on training, and I’m studying, practicing and still learning everyday; I’ve got decades of experience (and no sponsored bias) and I’m offering a resource to help you avoid making the same mistakes I made in the past.
As I near my eighth decade, I’m finding a whole new adventure and fitness is taking on a whole new meaning, and though I may be a step or two slower, I’m still a happy hearted roustabout.
I’d like to present one of my favorite clients. The reason I favor him is because he listened to, and followed, all of my training and diet advice.
“J” is a green grocer outside of New York City. A BJJ hobbyist, he loves open-water swimming and surfing; he’s also a hunter and fisherman.
After revamping his diet and instructing him in the principles of my high-intensity body weight training program, coupled with isometrics, he was able to shed the excess fat he’d been carrying, and gaining physical strength in the process.
When we began, he couldn’t do a single chin-up. We started with leg-assisted chin-ups and isometric chin-up holds on the bar. Now J can pull his own weight with perfectly-executed super-slow chin-ups.
From zero-to-hero, friends.
His stamina in his chosen sport activities has greatly increased, and, most importantly, he physically feels much better and his positivity is unbounded.
